Questions about the test
When does the Finnish citizenship test start?
The test is required for citizenship applications submitted on or after 1 March 2027. The law takes effect on 1 January 2027, and applications submitted by 28 February 2027 are still processed under the current rules.
Who has to take the test?
Applicants aged 18 to 64. A Finnish or Swedish matriculation examination, or a Finnish- or Swedish-language higher education degree from Finland, can replace the test. Exemptions are possible for health or disability reasons.
What language is the test in?
Finnish or Swedish. You can practise here in English first, then learn the key terms in the language you will test in.
What is on the test?
Key legislation for everyday life in Finland, fundamental and human rights, Finnish history and culture, and equality, including gender equality. The official study material will be published well before the first test.
How many questions are there, and what is the pass mark?
Not published yet. The Finnish Immigration Service will announce the format, fee and registration. Our practice test uses 25 questions and an 80 % pass mark as a realistic benchmark.
Are these the real test questions?
No. The official questions have not been published. Our questions are practice questions written to cover the confirmed topic areas.
